KUTV News Video – Sounds For Health
KUTV Article:
Every day, we are bombarded with noise and sound from the world around us. Now, researchers are using sound to help you sleep better and focus at work or at school.
The soothing sounds are from a company called Nuphonics™. Unlike the CD's you will find at stores, Nuphonics™ uses sounds to help correct neurological problems such as insomnia and Attention Deficit Disorder.
Alan Bentley is a C.E.O. for Nuphonics™. "Most music is just entertaining, it does some things and it's always affecting you. But if you actually put it together in a way that is designed for a purpose, you'll actually train or pattern your brain and the body into a state that you want. It's all part of audio science."
Researchers can use music to pattern the brain to function properly, without drugs or surgery. In fact, you may not know it, but sound waves are so powerful, they can actually be bad for your health. "They find some music out there actually causes you to decrease in performance and energy if you listen to the wrong tempo, rhythm, pattern," says Bentley.
The music from Nuphonics™ is designed to work with other treatment options, such as therapy.
